Set on a breathtaking tropical island during World War II, South Pacific tells the sweeping and emotional story of love, courage, sacrifice, and the struggle to overcome prejudice.

Ensign Nellie Forbush, a spirited nurse from Arkansas, falls deeply in love with the mysterious French planter Emile de Becque. But when Nellie discovers the mother of Emile’s children was an island native, she must confront the prejudices she has carried her entire life.

At the same time, young Lieutenant Joe Cable finds himself falling in love with Liat, a beautiful Tonkinese girl, yet fears and societal expectations threaten to keep them apart.

Filled with romance, heartbreak, humor, and hope, South Pacific remains one of the most powerful and timeless musicals ever written — featuring an unforgettable Rodgers & Hammerstein score including:

Based on James Michener’s Tales of the South Pacific, this legendary musical premiered on Broadway in 1949 and became an instant phenomenon, winning the 1950 Pulitzer Prize for Drama and ten Tony Awards, including Best Musical. Decades later, it continues to captivate audiences around the world with its stunning music and deeply moving story.

CCP is proud to bring this Broadway classic to life on our spectacular 125-foot Main Stage in an immersive theatrical experience unlike anything else in Mid-Missouri!
